Cleco working to restore power to remaining two percent of customers affected by Hurricane Delta
Company offers these customers estimated times for restoration
PINEVILLE, La. – Oct. 14, 2020 (noon) – As of noon today, Cleco had restored power to 98 percent of the more than 132,000 customers who lost power due to Hurricane Delta.
“We’re very close to wrapping up our Hurricane Delta storm restoration. Customers with structural damage to their property or equipment on their side of the meter will have to make repairs before service can be restored,” said James Lass, director of distribution operations and emergency management. “This has been a very active hurricane season, and we appreciate our customers’ patience.”
Delta made landfall as a Category 2 Hurricane Friday night. The storm left nearly 46 percent of Cleco’s 288,000 customers without power. It was the second hurricane to hit Cleco’s service area in less than six weeks.
“Weakened trees from Hurricane Laura followed by strong winds from Delta knocked down trees, utility poles and power lines, and damaged system equipment, as well as flooded substations and rights-of-way,” said Lass. “For Delta, the major challenge was flooding. In some communities like Sieper, even with our specialized equipment, we had to wait until the water receded within our rights-of-way for safety reasons before we could begin making repairs.”
