Cleco awards Folds of Honor more than $45,000

Dec 23, 2019

PINEVILLE, La. – Last week, Cleco presented a check for $45,421.22 to Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization founded in 2007 that provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.

Cleco selected Folds of Honor as the recipient of funds raised from its annual charitable golf tournament, Tee Off for a Cause, and a luncheon honoring Veterans.  Both events were held in October.

“We understand and greatly appreciate the sacrifices of our military service members and their families; therefore, it’s a privilege to assist Folds of Honor in its mission,” said Anthony Bunting, Cleco chief transformation officer.  “This donation will impact the lives of military families across Louisiana.”

While Folds of Honor has awarded approximately 24,500 scholarships to family members of fallen and disabled service members in all 50 states, Cleco’s donation will be awarded to spouses and children of fallen or disabled service members from Louisiana.  Those eligible are encouraged to apply for the upcoming academic year through Folds of Honor at www.foldsofhonor.org

“This generous donation is a reminder to the military families we serve that they are not alone, and Cleco and its supporters deeply appreciate the sacrifices they’ve made for our freedoms,” said Sara Bush, director of golf relations for Folds of Honor.

Katylyn Cox, a 2019-2020 Folds of Honor scholarship recipient, accepted the award for Folds of Honor.  Cox is the daughter of United States Air Force Staff Sergeant Doyle Wayne Cox who is medically retired.

“It’s because of my father and his sacrifice that I’m a scholarship recipient,” said Cox.  “It’s because of organizations like Folds of Honor and the support they receive from companies like Cleco that I can afford to go to college.  Thank you Cleco for supporting military families.”

Cleco has sponsored a charitable golf tournament for the past five years and donated the proceeds to various nonprofit organizations whose mission aligns with the company’s strategy and goals.  Previous recipients include Susan G. Komen and Lions Clubs of Louisiana.

Cleco extends a special thank you to the players and sponsors from Louisiana and other states who helped make the 2019 annual golf tournament a success.
