Cleco presents St. Landry Parish School Board with energy efficiency award

Oct 4, 2019

PINEVILLE, La.  Yesterday, Cleco presented the St. Landry Parish School Board with a check in the amount of $15,822.20 for lighting upgrades made this year through Cleco’s Power Wise™ energy efficiency program.

The school board upgraded the interior lighting at four parish schools to new LED lighting.  With the new LED lighting, the school board is projected to save 158,258 kWh annually, which is enough electricity to power 13 homes for one year based on an average use of 12,000 kWh a year (1,000 kWh per month).  The four schools are Grolee Elementary, East Elementary, Opelousas Middle and Northeast Elementary.

Power Wise™ offers financial incentives to customers to offset the cost of making certain energy efficient upgrades to homes and businesses.

“We applaud the St. Landry School System for making their district more energy efficient,” said Hammad Chaudhry, Cleco’s energy efficiency program manager.  “LEDs use less electricity, require less maintenance and provide a higher quality of lighting.”

“All of these benefits translate into operational savings for our school system,” said Patrick Jenkins, superintendent of St. Landry Parish Schools.  “LEDs also produce more light, which will improve visibility at the schools and create a better learning environment for our students.”
