Hurricane Season
The north Atlantic hurricane season is from June 1 until Nov. 30. There are currently no hurricanes threatening the Gulf of Mexico's coast.

2008 Hurricane Season
Experts have refined forecasting methods and predict a busy hurricane season. After two years of overstated hurricane activity, experts have refined their models and are predicting another dangerous hurricane season. Colorado State University is predicting 15 named storms, with eight of those storms expected to be hurricanes, and four of the storms predicted to be major storms with winds at least 111 miles per hour. The Colorado State Researchers say that unexpected weather patterns resulted in overestimates of hurricane activity in 2006 and 2007. They have simplified their formulas to focus on seasurface temperature and sea-level pressure to improve their forecasts.
