About Cleco

Cleco Corporation (NYSE: CNL) is an energy services company based in Pineville, Louisiana that has been in business since 1934. We have approximately 1,300 employees serving approximately 279,000 customers. We offer reasonable rates, reliable service and focus on our customers.

We use a mixture of western coal, petroleum coke (petcoke), lignite, oil, and natural gas to serve our customers. This diverse fuel mix helps Cleco deliver reliable, low-cost power. We also have access to purchased power when it's needed and when it's more cost-effective than our generation.

Our primary businesses/subsidiaries are:

  • Cleco Power LLC - a regulated electric utility and the only investor-owned electric utility in the state that serves Louisiana exclusively. It houses the corporation's utility operations and assets, including 11,500 miles of distribution circuits, 1,250 miles of transmission circuits.

Cleco Power earned its reputation as a reliable electric utility with a customer-centric strategy. When compared with other electric utilities in the state, Cleco Power ranks among the best in restoring power after a storm and limiting outage numbers.

The company received five national awards for its response to hurricanes. Cleco Power received the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Emergency Response Award for the team effort it took in 2005 to recover from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the most devastating storms to ever hit the company's system back to back, and for Hurricane Lili in 2002. Cleco Power received EEI's Emergency Response Assistance Award for helping restore power to residents of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi who were affected by Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne in 2004 and residents of Virginia and North Carolina after Hurricane Isabel in 2003. In 2009 Cleco received the EEI Award for its response to Hurricanes Gustav and Ike in 2008.

Cleco Power is regulated by the Louisiana Public Service Commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
  • Cleco Midstream Resources LLC - our wholesale energy business, which houses the corporation's unregulated power generation facilities and has approximately 775 megawatts of capacity in Louisiana.

Midstream evolved from Cleco's long history and vast experience in managing and operating power plants. We saw opportunities to build on our skills and experience in the power generation business and develop valuable assets to meet demands for power.

Since its inception in 1998, Midstream has brought three highly efficient, state-of-the art power plants on-line, two of which have been sold. It owns and operates one wholesale generating plant and provides transmission interconnection services for third-party generation facilities.

  • Cleco Support Group LLC is a shared-services subsidiary whose function is to enhance the revenues and profitability of Cleco's subsidiaries through cost-effective support services. Some of the services provided include human resources, financial and accounting services, information technology services, procurement, audit services, corporate and strategic communications, and safety and environmental services.
