Lake Ramsey Pine Savanna

With Cleco's help, The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana added 38 acres to their existing preservation near Lake Ramsay in St. Tammany Parish in 2003.

This partnership between Cleco and The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the last remaining longleaf pine savanna habitats in Louisiana's Florida Parishes. The canopy of longleaf pine trees supports a diverse ecosystem with carnivorous plants, a variety of orchids and numerous rare plant species.

The Nature Conservancy is restoring the savanna by removing certain plants with an aggressive prescribed burning program and planting longleaf pine. This site is being cooperatively managed with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, which owns the adjacent 796-acre Lake Ramsey Wildlife Management Area.
